Why have peer support?

Being an Emergency Communiations operator is more than knowing how to answer the phone. The job requires many skills, including the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment; the ability to take control of and direct the information obtained from a 911 caller, and the ability to think quickly and pick a course of action from a vast variety of options.

stressed operator While other jobs may require similar skill-sets, the natural ability to do the job of a 911 operator is only available in about 1% of the population. Natural ability is what makes this job manageable. Still, there are times when listening to a person calling in on 911 can be emotionally challenging, or in some cases, overwhelming. For those moments, we need someone to talk to.

Dedication

This site therefore is dedicated to those caring souls who provide peer support services to their co-workers within the emergency communications field.
